Whew….What a week! Welcome to DAY 8….THE MASTER CLOSET! Don’t worry, just give me 15 minutes!
One area that can quickly get cluttered and demotivating is the closet. Since I work from home, most of my daily outfits consist of leggings and a t-shirt. But, I had to go into the office this week. Y’all, I had clothes thrown everywhere because I tried on a ton of outfits and nothing seemed to work.
When I got home from work and looked in my closet, I was INSTANTLY annoyed and a little sad. Who wants to come home to a closet looking like a tornado blew through with everything else we have going on?
Sound familiar to anyone?
Well, it is a weekday and we are practicing SELF KINDNESS. So I have decided we will take a full weekend in April to completely organize our closets. For the purpose of today’s challenge, we will be completing a quick 15-minute “Closet Sweep”.
Before you get started, set a timer for fifteen minutes and put on some music.
For the first 5 Minutes:
Remove any dirty clothes on the floor or tossed about (even in your bedroom) and place them in the dirty clothes basket.
Hang or fold all clean clothes that may be scattered on the floor of your closet and around your room
For the second Five Minutes:
Go through your clothes…swiftly! Do a quick scan of your clothes and remove any of the following items that stick out at you
-
Anything torn, stained, ripped, or broken.
-
Items that need to be repaired
-
All items that don’t fit you or that you don’t feel good in.
-
Anything you haven’t worn in over a year.
Put these items in 3 piles: tailor/repair, donate, or trash.
IN THE LAST 5 MINUTES – Deal with the piles
Place anything that will be donated put it in a box/bin/bag and PLACE IT IN YOUR CAR! (Find some time in the next 24-48 hours to take these things to the donation spot.)
Take the trash bag of stuff you are throwing away to your large trash receptacle outside.
Place the items that need to be repaired in a bag and sit the bag at the front of your closet. (If you are feeling frisky—go ahead and take these items to your seamstress). Otherwise, we said 15 minutes so let’s stop here.
Bonus–vacuum your closet floor.
Now we are set up to begin the process of a full closet organization project when we have more time to devote.
I just completed a full closet reorganization project for a client and with an assistant, it took me six hours to complete. My client was thrilled with the results. However, those results took time! An organized closet is a continual process.
