Today’s post is part of a weekly blog link up called Five Minute Friday. Every Friday, Christian writers from all over the world gather to write about the same one word prompt. Today’s prompt is Spontaneous.
Fall is my favorite time of year! Cooler weather, jeans, sweaters, boots, my birthday, and of course….THE DECOR are all part of why I LOVE FALL!
Although it is not officially fall, I have already fully embraced autumn at my house. My porch and entryway are screaming…HAPPY FALL Y’ALL!
One of my main purposes of decorating seasonally is to reflect what is going on in nature.
We are in what is called the “fifth season” where the high activity of summer spontaneously decreases and there is an inward shift towards slowing down.
I have been evaluating my schedule and opening more opportunities to be spontaneous. In many ways, I’m looking forward to decreasing my pace and enjoying some cozy fall nights.
Creating space in the hustle and bustle of my life allows God the opportunity to show me my best yes.
If you like to savor the last few days of summer or or can’t get motivated to put out fall décor, I would like to challenge you to do some “spontaneous” fall decorating with these easy tips:
- Add some fall scents. Pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon candles, essential oils, wax melts, and fall themed cleaning supplies can transition your home to fall almost instantly.
2. SHOP your house. Walk around your home and look for things you already have that remind you of fall (books, pillows, artwork). Put a few items in your entryway.
3. Display blankets. Fall brings cooler weather, which means it’s time to break out the blankets. A blanket draped over a chair, ottoman, rolled up into a basket, or even hanging over a ladder make your space more festive without a lot of work.

The only way I know it’s fall
is by the picture of red leaves
in calendar upon the wall,
and seeing it, why, I believes!
In this arid desert place
there’s nothing marks the change of season
‘cept being cooler (quite a grace!),
and so there seems not too much reason
to celebrate the autumn days
and bring their flavour to our home
in myraid and subtle ways…
so I thought, but might have known
that, married to a Midwest lady
she have the fall decor all ready.
