Hello Hello! Welcome to DAY 4…laundry room!
Y’all in a moment of complete honesty, my laundry room is my largest clutter collector. I have organized and re-organized my laundry room several times. In my defense, it has a few problems that make keeping it organized an issue like: it is entirely too small for our family, there is no place to hang clothes (which is compounded by the fact my house does not have a hall closet…GASP I KNOW), there is no room to fold clothes, and I enter my house through the laundry door from the garage which makes dropping stuff in there super easy.
My laundry room does have cabinets with shelving but they are full of things that probably belong somewhere else.
Sooooo, if you can relate to any of my laundry room issues, you will understand why it is so tempting for me to look at all of the clutter and say “I can’t do this”.
But… we can do hard things.
So just like with the other rooms, we are going to use my PILLS method to bring some order to our laundry rooms.
Gather a trash bag, donation bin, and a bin for things that do not belong in the laundry room.
P-Pull everything out-Because it is so easy to get overwhelmed, let’s just pull out on drawer/cabinet/corner at a time. Be sure to clean each area as you go!
I-Inventory what you have (put likes with likes)-The laundry room is a room that gets so much traffic, you will find quite a few items that belong some where else. Place them in the bin for items that do not belong and return them all to their proper homes. Group like items with like items. Place all of the laundry supplies in one area and cleaning supplies in another.
L-Let go of things with gratitude.-Anything you find in a drawer that is broken, empty, or that you no longer use–trash or place in the donate bin.
L-Label and Contain—OMG containers and labels are super important in the laundry room. Use containers to group like items and then label the container to help promote the likelihood of things getting put back!
S-Style-If you flip through Pinterest, you can find some really pretty laundry rooms. If I’m not careful, I will get stuck just looking at Pinterest laundry rooms instead of actually working on my own. Y’all know I LOVE stylish home décor but beauty is NOT our goal.
Our goal is peace.
Beauty may enhance the peace and joy we feel in our homes but the foundation is love, organization, cleanliness, and functionality. So…..work on organizing, cleaning, and increasing the functionality of your laundry room first.
