The first few weeks of January can often feel like the “twilight zone”. The buzz and adrenaline rush of Christmas have subsided. There is a cultural push to dream big and push towards your goals.
Yet, nature is in a God-designed dormant period that creates resilience.
OUR LIVES FLOW BEST WHEN WE MIMIC NATURE.
Reflection, paring down, and aligning my schedule to receive the gift of God’s rest has been my focus this January.
For many years, I missed out on the rest God offers in winter by longing to be in another season.
Not this year.
Give me all the warm drinks, blankets, and early bedtimes.
I am savoring winter with seasonal touches throughout my home.
Here are three quick tips to bring some winter “coziness” into your home– (to create an atmosphere for receiving God’s rest):
1. FOCUS ON DECLUTTERING
Take the first few weeks of January as an opportunity to create peace in your home by removing clutter. Make taking down Christmas decorations and storing them NEATLY a priority. Part of this process will be purging the items that no longer bring you joy or do not match your décor theme.
2. USE SOFT THROW BLANKETS & PILLOWS
Place some neutral-colored throw blankets on your chairs and sofa in the living area. Nothing says cozy like being snuggled under a blanket.
3. ADD LIGHT
One of the things about winter that makes it harder for some people is the lack of light because the days are shorter. Adding candles or lamps into your winter décor can improve your mood and boost your energy.
Bonus tip: REST
Resting does not always mean sleeping. Journaling, meditating, reading, praying, listening to music, and napping are also ways we can rest.
“Winter is here to embrace us in the warmth and comfort of rest and renewal. Give yourself permission to rest.” -Brenda Bruno
