For the next five days, I will be participating in a writing challenge sponsored by Kate Motaung at Five Minute Friday. Each day has a one-word prompt. Today’s word is SUPPORT.
I used to say I was a “Professional Organizer”. Professional organizers “organize/declutter” for other people and often devise creative ways to use space.
I DO organize for other people and creating a beautiful yet functional space is my JAM. But, when I reflect on my time with my clients who need multiple sessions, it is waaaay more than just organizing.
Really, I am their SUPPORT through the journey of decluttering their lives.
WOW.
I know that sounds crazy because we are “just” talking about decluttering and organizing.
Newsflash–clutter is NOT the problem.
Clutter is the manifestation of deeper unresolved issues.
Yes, I get down on the floor and help my clients decide what to keep, toss, or donate. But I also pray for them before I arrive at their homes and during our sessions.
My clients and I have a relationship. I listen to them and respect where they are.
We devise a plan together and I lovingly hold them accountable.
I recognize the beautiful women I work with already have the solutions to their situations within themselves.
It is my job to support them enough so that their perspective sharpens to perceive what God has placed on the inside of them.
And God is challenging me in my own life right along with my clients.
Looking pretty on a shelf with a fancy label is not the goal.
The goal is peace.
