10 Day Declutter Challenge-Day 6-Bedroom

March 30, 2022 Katina Leave a Comment

Hey hey…it’s day 6 of our 10 Day Declutter Challenge! Today’s focus is the bedroom!

Although you may have several bedrooms, concentrate on the master bedroom. Once you get the master bedroom completed, move on to other bedrooms if time allows.

Before you get started, be sure to have a box/bin for items you will be donating, throwing away, and keeping.

Just like with the other areas, we are going to use my “PILLS” method of decluttering.

Just as a reminder…PILLS stands for:

P-Pull everything out

I-Inventory what you have (put likes with likes)

L-Let go of things with gratitude.

L-Label and Contain

S-Style

Pull everything out

Take out anything that does not belong in the bedroom. Place those items in a bin and put them back where they belong. (Could some of these items be donated or trashed?) Clear all surfaces like dressers, nightstands, chairs. What is up under your bed?

Be sure to dust furniture after clearing and vacuum!

Since it is a weekday, work on one area at a time.

Inventory

Once you pull out items, group like items together. Notice any duplicates. Nightstand drawers are notorious for being catchalls for things long forgotten about.

Let Go With Gratitude

Think about items in your bedroom you don’t use. Are there any furniture pieces “collecting dust” that could be donated?

Label and Contain

Small containers inside nightstand drawers are an excellent way to keep things from juggling around when the drawers are opened and closed. A nice basket to house books is also a good idea. However, we want our bedrooms to be free of clutter and storage containers. Resist the urge to keep buying containers!!!! The more things you let go of, the less containers and huge organizing projects you will need!

Style

My mama would not allow me to leave the house with  my bed unmade. As much as it got on my nerves when I was younger, I am thankful she was a stickler for beds being neat and tidy. The first step in styling your bedroom and creating a serene space is to make up the bed.  High thread count sheets, new comforter, and layered pillows will elevate the “cozy” of your bedroom and create a sanctuary! They are well worth the splurge.

The bedroom closet is another space we need to tackle but will probably need a day of its own!

How are you doing with the challenge? No worries if you cannot do everyday or even if this week is not a good fit for your schedule. Cleaning out 1 drawer is a win! All of the information about the challenge and a log of the blog posts are on the 10 Day Declutter Challenge Page.
