I know the groundhog saw his shadow, but I am feeling like spring is truly in the air. My favorite season has ALWAYS been fall but this year, spring is coming in as really close second.
Perhaps it is because spring is about renewal.
After this past winter and the current events, renewal sounds lovely.
Actually, renewal sounds amazing.
But renewal requires a process.
There is a process for just about everything. From small things like decorating to big things like continuing to go to a job you don’t like or healing from past hurts.
The process is invisible yet it is always playing the background of our lives.
Pastor Holly Furtick referred to this process as the “Hope Cycle”.
Perhaps that is why I enjoy seasonal decorating so much. Decorating for the seasons increases the coziness of your home AND mirrors the changes occurring in nature.
Even when it is still cold and sparse, I KNOW spring is coming.
Therefore, I have HOPE.
…but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5
Yes there is a war going on, yes gas prices resemble weighted GPAs, yes there is not much we can do to control those things. Yet we have hope.
Here are three easy ways to decorate your home for spring and celebrate the hope of renewal:
- Infuse your home with pops of spring-ish colors. Pastels, burlap, natural greens, and white are easy to incorporate with blankets, bedding, tiered trays, florals, vases, and other accessories.
- Pillow Covers-Unless you are new here, you know I do NOT purchase new pillows! I use pillow covers! They are easy to store and so much more economical than purchasing new pillows. Amazon is my go to for pillow covers. You don’t have to use covers with words or pictures. Pillow covers with lighter colors or a spring-type patterns work well also.
- Declutter- Spring is an excellent season to embrace a clutter free space. In the days of old, “spring cleaning” was necessary to remove soot from heating homes with fireplaces. Now, “spring cleaning” is necessary to help clear your space and mind of clutter. We enjoy our homes more when they are clean and organized. Often, we try to do everything in one day or over one weekend and get in a “decluttering haze” or burnout.
