Today I am participating in the “High on Life” link up party with Heather over at Some Kind of Wonderful and Christina over at My Silly Life. The premise of the link up party is that: everyone is guilty of allowing the daily grind to blind us from seeing the positives that surround us. So today, and every Thursday, they will be doing a High on Life Thursday! They want to know what inspires you, what makes you thankful, and what brings you joy?
I would have to say that I am high on life today because I celebrated 12 years of marriage with my wonderful husband on last Sunday!!! My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have pretty much grown up together. We love to cut up and make each other laugh.
As much as we love to make each other laugh, our marriage has definitely had its valleys. It is very interesting, but it is not our good times that have me feeling “high on life” this morning. I am feeling “high on life”, inspired, joyful and thankful because of the way God worked in our marriage during those valleys.
As I will say to any one: put two people with two different upbringings in a home together, throw in a couple of kids, a few bills, jobs, and in laws and you will have a very interesting mix! If you add hidden cameras, you just might have one of the hottest reality shows on TV!! Talk about high drama! (LOL!)
Just the other day, I read something that said that marriage is like losing weight. You can’t just do the right things for a short period of time and reap long lasting results. We all know, to lose weight and NOT gain it back, you have to make lifestyle changes. So it is with marriage, a lifestyle.
We also know that you have to be real in dieting. There will be days that you stick to the plan and then days maybe weeks, or months that you fall completely off the wagon. So it is with marriage, or anything really that has to be done long term.
We attended my husband’s family reunion in West Virginia last weekend. One of the activities was a vow renewal for married couples. We renewed our vows in front of the breathtaking views of the New River Gorge.
This time, when we said our vows, we already knew some of the “richer or poorer” “good times and in bad” stuff we robotically repeated at our original wedding. The short service was just beautiful and the Carolina Blue Reunion Shirts made for the most perfect outfits (lol)!
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
What are you high on life about today?
