Happy Friday Divas! Expecting snow here today. How are things in your neck of the woods? Well, this wintry morning I am linking up with Lisa Jo Baker, (The Gypsy Mama), for her weekly writing link up–Five Minute Friday (FMF). For most FMFs, Lisa Jo provides a one word prompt and challenges writers to write about the prompt for five minutes ONLY.
Today, the prompt is a little different. Today the prompt is: In just five minutes. Tell me all about what your mama did that made her yours….
I would have to say the main thing my mama did that made her mine was being REAL. You always know exactly where you stand with my mama and never have to wonder if she is upset because she will tell you—immediately. Although growing up, I did not always understand her, I have come to REALLY appreciate people who are authentic.
Because my mother was so authentic, she didn’t do things for you out of guilt or say yes to things that she really did not want to do. She didn’t act happy if she really wasn’t and she spoke up for herself and others. I learned how to be a true friend from my mom: trust and respect.
I think my mama and my daddy were the cliche’ king and queen. By the tender age of eight I knew:
Money don’t grow on trees.
A hard head will make a soft behind.
If you don’t work-you don’t eat.
All that glitters is NOT gold!
If you can do something about “it” do it! If you can’t, don’t worry about it.
If you don’t stand up for something-you will fall for anything.
But most of all, I knew that no matter what I was loved. At this very moment, my Mama is my greatest cheerleader and support! When I teach my fitness classes, she dances right up front. Way to rock it Mama!
I sure hope my children feel the love of our precious Lord and Savior and of their mama.
Psalm 136:26 Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Katina, this is beautiful! You are indeed a very special person and I love your spirit.
What a great tribute to your Mom. It’s great to stop and remember the things that our parents taught us. It always makes me love them more. Stopping by from SITS today to wish you a great weekend.
