Whoop Whoop! Today is day 10 of the 31 Days of Free Writes writing challenge. Today’s word is scared.
Bugs, heights, deep water, and horror films scare me. No thank you to: bungy jumping, zip lining, white water rafting, roller coasters, parasailing, or water slides. I’m a “scaredy cat”. Adventure seekers say “feel the fear and do it anyway”!
I went zip lining a few years ago in Jamaica. Yep, I faced my fear, and I don’t EVER want to do that again. Despite mustering up my courage, I’m still afraid to go zip lining or any other crazy activity with heights, water, speed, and danger.
Extreme sports are just part of the picture. Regular life evokes terror and I’m pretty positive, courage is not the antidote.
Andrea Lucado wrote a blog post entitled; The Opposite of Fear is Not Courage and she asked a very thought provoking question: “What if I combated this season of fear by being grateful, rather than courageous”?
WOW.
What would it look like if I fought my fears (welfare of my children, marriage, job, finances) with gratitude instead of trying to stiff upper lip and courageously push through? I would thank God for His provision of what I already have and for what He will do in the future. Hope would arise.
Such hope [in God’s promises] never disappoints us, because God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:5 AMP
