OMG, it’s Saturday and I have never really blogged on the weekends. Perhaps that is because my weekends are SO BUSY! I’m a little late with this entry but I showed up! Thank you Lord for giving me the “want to”.
Today’s word is other.
Social media is really good at making me believe if had anything other than what I have…I would be happy. One minute I’m completely fine. A scroll through Facebook and….boom!
A perfectly innocent scrolling session can go completely wrong with a couple of upward swipes. Often, awareness of other people’s new jobs, vacations, weight loss and super attentive love interests leaves me feeling sad and envious.
And it’s not just with other people’s feeds! Apple knows full well I was relatively happy with my phone but would be totally ready for an upgrade once I found out about the new features on the latest Iphone.
Andy Stanley was so right when he said, “Awareness fuels discontentment.”
I looked up the definition of discontentment all I could say was WOW. (Discontentment is defined as: a restless desire or craving for something one does not have.)
Restless anything doesn’t sound fun but a restless desire for what I don’t have sounds like torture.
I bet I’m not the only one who tortures herself sometimes. How do we stop?
- Trust God not circumstances.
- See other’s success as inspiration! They don’t have the market on jobs, vacations, weight loss or boos. (Our time is coming and even if we NEVER get what we think we need— “Trust God to make our lives more powerful and purposeful with out it”-Wanda Applewhite).
But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 1 Timothy 6:6-8
