Today is October 31st and the last day of the 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes Challenge. It has been tough to stay consistent, but worth every tiring moment spent pecking on my keyboard. God has revealed so many things to me while writing these posts. I’ve learned a lot about myself and see new opportunities for growth. Today’s word prompt is ENJOY.
I have decided to enjoy my life…FLATOUT. (In my best Willie Moore Jr. voice.) Writing every day has helped me see I have been looking for joy in all the wrong places.
When the women of Galilee went to the tomb where Jesus was buried after being crucified, they did not find his body. Instead, two angels were in the tomb, and they asked the women (and me) a question:
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5b-6 ESV
Looking for happiness and purpose in achievement, outcomes, relationships, entertainment, or anything other than Jesus is a dead place.
What happened in the past and its old hurts are dead places.
The women went to the tomb looking for death, but they found life instead. Jesus not being in the tomb signified completion of His task to bring redemption for the world. There is nothing we can do to deserve the gift of forgiveness Jesus provides. Yet, grace and mercy are available to us.
Jesus defeated death. The past has no power. A new life awaits.
I am free to enjoy my life by living with hope.
I will sunbathe in the joy of Jesus not being in the tomb when life attempts to bury my faith.
Are you enjoying your life?
