Day 8!!!! Still plugging along. I’m participating in Five Minute Friday’s 31 Day Writing Challenge. For thirty-one days, Christian Writers from all over the world are writing daily on a one word prompt. Today’s word is GATHER.
While working as a social worker, Leymah Gbowee gathered Christian and Muslim women of Monrovia, Liberia to pray for peace. She organized nonviolent protests to the Liberian Civil War. Thousands of praying women, dressed in white, became a powerful force against violence and corruption in their government. Their movement led to the election of the first female president of an African nation, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Ms. Gbowee’s words are so true, “when women gather great things happen”.
Last week, when ladies gathered for my ZUMBA class, great things happened. Every class is fun and we always start with prayer and end with worship, but last week we also gave back. One of the ladies in my class (Alison) is going on a mission trip to Guatemala. Her team will build safer wood burning stoves with outside ventilation to protect children from getting burned and decrease inhalation of toxic fumes.
Although the main purpose of the trip is to build stoves, the women of the village made a strange request. They asked for bras.
At the end of class a couple of weeks ago, Alison shared about her upcoming mission trip and the need for bras. What better place to get bras than a gym full of women of all sizes?
Look at what women can do when we gather. Hundreds of donated bras meant a celebratory photo was necessary!
Instead of facing your next problem alone with fear and rash decisions, gather the women in your life to pray!
…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
