Happy Sunday and day twenty-seven of the Five Minutes of Free Writes Challenge. Today’s word prompt is Better.
I love to dance. The genre doesn’t matter, just give me a good beat. Recently, I’ve been dancing towards a choice to be better.
Every time I feel hurt from current or past offenses, I get to choose…bitter or better.
During an episode of Mitch Matthews‘ podcast, he shared a concept I LOVE called “The 3 Buckets”. “The 3 Buckets” are a mental filing system to process life and prompt you to ask yourself three questions as soon as you are tempted to get worried, afraid, frustrated or angry:
1. Can I control it?
2. Can I influence it?
3. Do I need to let it go?
As I dance towards better, I need to place things in their appropriate basket.
My Attitude—“Control it Bucket”- I have the power to CHOOSE how I view and respond to my surroundings.
My children-“Influence it Bucket”-As much as I would LOVE to make them do everything I tell them to do, Aryonna, Anaiya and Braxton are their own free will beings and will make their own choices. My job is to influence them to make wise decisions by teaching God’s truth, providing loving correction with consequences and being an example. That’s it. Periodt.
The past– “Let it Go Bucket”- I am fully aware the past is over. Sometimes I struggle with replaying old hurts or responding to triggers by going back down the rabbit hole of trying to understand why. Where I place my focus is my choice. Putting the past in the “Let It Go Bucket” creates space for gratitude, new opportunities and an epic “glow up”.
Can you think of a few things you need to file in a bucket today?

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31
