Day eighteen of the 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes Challenge! I’m over the hump! Today’s word is Active.
“… active love is a harsh and fearful thing compared with the love in dreams. Love in dreams thirsts for immediate action, quickly performed, and with everyone watching. Indeed, it will go as far as the giving even of one’s life, provided it does not take long but is soon over, as on stage, and everyone is looking on and praising. Whereas active love is labor and persistence, and for some people, perhaps, a whole science.”―
Dictionary.com gave the following synonyms for labor and persistence:
Labor–work, mission, drudgery, job, task, chore, endeavor, fight, push.
Persistence–determination, resolve, endurance, resolve, diligence, endurance, commitment, tirelessness
On TV and on social media, love is easy, breezy, beautiful, covergirl.
In reality, true love is active with moments of a beautiful breeze.
Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening]. Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (AMP)
God has been dealing with me this entire week with the word endure, specifically in marriage. Do you see how many times the word endure is mentioned in the text above? Have you ever looked up the definition of endure? I advise you not to do it!
Endure means to suffer (something painful or difficult) patiently.
Mind-blowing synonyms: withstand, sustain, stomach, swallow, support, take, go along with, abide, continue, persist, remain. (Help me Jesus!!)
Do you think love is active? How does Biblical definition of love challenge societal norms?
